On May 9, NBC announced that Community would not be returning for a sixth season and fans found their mantra of “six seasons and a movie” in jeopardy. With a failed attempt at reviving the show on Hulu and the cast contracts expiring tonight, it looked like Community was a goner. But thanks to Sony’s insistence on finding a new home for the beloved show, Community is officially coming back for a sixth season!
Yahoo Screen is reviving the show for a brand new season with creator Dan Harmon on board as well as cast members Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong all signed for the sixth season. Yahoo Screen has stated that the new season will consist of 13 episodes which will be released all at once and that the show’s budget will remain intact.
Yahoo CMO Kathy Savitt added: “Yahoo is all about connecting the best creators to the audiences who love their work. Community has an incredibly passionate and loyal fan base who have fought hard to keep this amazing show alive. We couldn’t be more excited to work with Dan, Joel, and the entire cast, as well as Sony, to deliver a great season 6.”
“I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo,” creator Dan Harmon said in a statement. “I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!”
Community returning for a sixth season is tremendously great news! Hopefully Yahoo Screen will see great success with their decision to continue the show and maybe the fans can start altering their mantra to say “seven seasons and a movie,” maybe even”eight seasons and a movie!” Why not dream big? As long as Dan Harmon and crew can keep the show funny, there will always be a demand for more adventures at Greendale!
