Welcome to 31 Days of ’80s Horror boys and ghouls! Each day in October I’ll be posting about a horror film from the 1980s, some of which you may have heard of, others may be a little more obscure. This is the month to celebrate all things spooky so I wanted to present some films from my favorite era of the horror genre. I hope you enjoy the column and discover some new ’80s horror flicks to watch, or rewatch, whatever the case may be. I know I’ll be checking out some of these ghastly tales myself since I’ve come across a few that even I’ve never heard of! So on with the horror! On with the terror! On with the ’80s!
This killer comedy is the original teenage parody horror film taken to the extreme! The screams are as frequent as the laughs as a crazed, heavy-breathing murderer terrorizes Lamab High with a series of mysterious deaths. Everyone is a suspect and no one is safe from the hilarious twists and turns as Breather terrorizes and kills sex-starved couples. When the body count rises, one student attempts to solve the mystery and instead finds herself a suspect. Does she survive or become another victim? It’s anyone’s guess in this satirical romp of horror!
I love this movie. The comedy is super silly and akin to something you’d see in Amazon Women on the Moon so it may not be for everyone’s tastes, but with the right crowd, this movie will kill. While I’ve never been one to like recent horror spoofs generally (never got into the Scary Movie series), there is something really endearing and hilarious about this spoof of ’70s horror which works more often than not. If you’re looking for a horror comedy to watch between all those scary movies you’re going through this month, Student Bodies comes highly recommended.
