HBO has premiered the trailer for their newest crime drama, True Detective, which stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. The series follows detectives Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), whose lives become entangled while searching for a serial killer in Louisiana. The first season will follow the 17-year hunt for the killer, with following seasons replacing the cast and story, much like FX’s American Horror Story. The first season will also be directed entirely by Cary Fukunaga, who directed the awesome adaptation of Jane Eyre starring Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender.
I’m pretty enthused with the details surrounding this show. It’s exciting to see McConaughey tackle a TV series and I’m happy about Fukunaga’s involvement. I also really like the approach HBO is taking with the series where each season is something new. I really like that idea as an alternative TV series format which could lend itself to bringing new things to the show without allowing things to get stale should the show go on for a few years. It seems to work for American Horror Story. Check out the trailer below and look for the show to premiere on HBO in January.
