Community star Joel McHale and Sean Harris (The Borgias) are in final talks to join Eric Bana, Olivia Munn and Edgar Ramirez in the supernatural thriller, Beware the Night.  Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) wrote the script and will direct the film about an NYPD officer who has lost his faith and becomes the target of a soldier possessed by the Devil himself. WWE Studios will be teaming up with Warner Bros. to co-produce an animated Flintstones movie that will be released to direct-to-home video platforms in early 2015.  The movie will feature the voices of WWE’s wrestling roster including Vince McMahon, John Cena and CM Punk and will have Fred, Barney and friends attending the first WWE main event in Bedrock. Michael Bay released a photo of the newly redesigned Optimus Prime (in vehicle form) that will be featured in Transformers 4.  The truck is an upgraded, custom build from Western Star. (MichaelBay.com)

Latino Review’s El Mayimbe tweeted that Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) is said to be one of several contenders to direct the third Star Trek film. (El Mayimbe)

Warner Bros. is courting their Man of Steel leading man, Henry Cavill, to play Napoleon Solo opposite Armie Hammer in Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of Man From U.N.C.L.E.  Tom Cruise was previously attached to the role but left the project to focus his attention on Mission: Impossible 5. (The Wrap)

Dan Harmon, the creator and former showrunner of NBC’s Community, is in talks with Sony Pictures Television to return in some capacity to the series’ upcoming fifth season.  The details of his possible return remain unclear. (Hollywood Reporter)

Composer Carter Burwell was set to provide the score for Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World but has departed the film due to creative differences.  The studio is close to announcing Burwell’s replacement for the movie which opens on November 8. (Deadline)

James Bond producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have decided to wait for Skyfall director Sam Mendes to complete his theater duties so that he can return to direct the next Bond film.  Mendes previously stated he would not return due to his stage obligations and the producers started putting together a list of potential directors that included Christopher Nolan, Ang Lee, Nicolas Winding Refn, Shane Black and David Yates but reverted back to Mendes after they decided he was their ideal choice and he was wanting to return.  They are currently working on a deal that should have production of the film start next year most likely. 15 new stills from Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Pacific Rim have popped up online.  The images feature behind-the-scenes shots, concept art and stills of the cast. (Variety)

Visual effects veteran Zach Lipovsky has been hired to direct Leprechaun: Origins for WWE Studios.  Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl will play the title character in the reboot of the Warwick Davis-led horror franchise.  The new film would skew darker than the previous films. (The Wrap)

Oscar-nominated actor Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight) has been cast in Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence).  He’d star alongside Dieter Laser, Laurence Harvey, Tommy “Tiny” Lister and Bree Olsen in the film directed by Tom Six which, according to some reports, will contain a 500 centipede made up of prison inmates. Glenn Close has joined the cast of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy.  She’ll play a leading member of Nova Corps, the intergalactic space patrol, in the James Gunn directed film. (Deadline)

Kon-Tiki directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg have been hired to direct Pirates of the Caribbean Part 5 for Disney.  Jeff Nathanson has provided a rewrite of the script and the production is aiming to start late this year or early January. (Deadline)

The first footage for Machete Kills can now be seen via Yahoo! En Español.  The trailer is introduced by Robert Rodriguez and Danny Trejo (in Spanish) and it shows off the grindhousian sequel and its cast. (Yahoo! OMG! En Español)
