Oscar winner Chris Cooper (The Bourne Identity, The Muppets) has been cast as Norman Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  He joins a cast that includes Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Felicity Jones, Colm Feore and Martin Sheen.  No word yet on whether Cooper will don the Green Goblin mask in the film.  (Hollywood Reporter)

Niels Arden Oplev, the director of the Swedish The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is attached to direct a remake of Joel Schumacher’s original 1990 movie, Flatliners.  Oplev recently directed the upcoming Dead Man Down, which hits theaters on March 8, and the pilot for the CBS series, Under the Dome, based on Stephen King’s novel. A new poster for Iron Man 3 has debuted online showing a battle-worn Tony Stark.  The final trailer for the film will premiere online on Tuesday, March 5. (Yahoo! Movies)

Nickelodeon has renewed their animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show for a third season before the second season has even aired.  The popular cartoon show stars Jason Biggs (Leonardo), Sean Astin (Raphael), Rob Paulsen (Donatello), Greg Cipes (Michelangelo), Mae Whitman (April O’Neil), Hoon Lee (Master Splinter) and Kevin Michael Richardson (Shredder). Mama director Andy Muschietti is boarding the adaptation for the soon-to-be-published-book, Bird Box.  The story follows “a blindfolded threesome comprised of a woman and two children who make their way down a river in a seemingly postapocalyptic setting.” (Hollywood Reporter)

Following the recent news that Matthew Vaughan (X-Men: First Class) will produce the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, it’s just been announced that Seth Grahame-Smith, writer of Abraham Lincoln: Vamire Hunter, has been brought aboard to polish the current script by Jeremy Slater.  Josh Trank (Chronicle) is set to direct the superhero film that opens on March 6, 2015. Kodi Smit-McPhee is set to reunite with director Matt Reeves for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.  McPhee joins the already cast Jason Clarke and Andy Serkis in the 2014 sequel. (Ain’t It Cool News)

A New Orleans Hornets basketball player took a photo with Sylvester Stallone and Robert DeNiro recently, offering the first look of the two actors on the set of the upcoming boxing comedy, Grudge Match.  The Peter Segal directed film opens on November 15. (Robin Lopez)

Kathy Bates has joined the cast of the third season of FX’s American Horror Story.  Producer Ryan Murphy spoke about her character in a recent interview, “Oh, Kathy’s never played someone this bad.  Her character is a bad, bad woman!”  He added that she’ll be “five times worse than her Misery character, which is why she liked it.” (TVLine)

Guillermo del Toro recently spoke about his DC Comics “Dark Universe” project that appears to be on the right track, I am going to be presenting my storyline to DC and Warners of where I want to take this universe. We do have a writer, but until that is firmed up, I have to keep it a secret. I hope it happens.”  He added, “It’s going really really well. It’s like meeting old friends. I grew up with Demon Etrigan, with Swamp Thing, with Deadman, so these are characters that are near and dear to my heart. I’d love to use the origins that are proper to each character. I love the idea of Jason Blood as a paladin and a knight…. I love the entire Constantine mythology, the Dead Man mythology, the Alex Holland Swamp Thing mythology. These are really rich things to well, and to dig.” (Total Film)

French actress Juliette Binoche (CosmopolisThe English Patient) is in negotiations to join the Gareth Edwards reboot of Godzilla.  Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen are also in negotiations. (Variety)

Marvel Studios’ reported plans of a Planet Hulk movie appear to be untrue.  The reason being is that Marvel is very happy with Mark Ruffalo and have him committed to a six-picture deal as Bruce Banner.  Planet Hulk wouldn’t feature Banner at all and Marvel is not keen on reducing Ruffalo’s role. The Coen Brothers will rewrite Unbroken for director Angelina Jolie.  Jolie’s sophomore feature film is an adaptation of Laura Hillenbrand’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name. (Hollywood Reporter)

The first trailer for The Conjuring, from director James Wan (Insidious), is now online.  The film stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor and opens in theaters on July 19.
