The first Red film was just okay. I found it to be mildly entertaining but it didn’t exactly make me look forward to a sequel. That being said, this trailer for Red 2 kind of wins me over and I find myself looking forward to seeing it. I like the addition of Anthony Hopkins but the most appealing element of the film is its director, Dean Parisot, who directed the immensely fun Galaxy Quest. I absolutely love Galaxy Quest and would check Red 2 out for Parisot’s involvment alone. This sequel will open in theaters on August 2.
Danny Boyle’s latest film is a thriller about an art auctioneer who gets mixed up with a ruthless crew of art thieves for a high-stakes caper involving the robbery of a valuable painting. After suffering an injury though, the auctioneer can’t remember where he hid the stolen painting and finds his life on the line. He enlists a hypnotherapist to unlock his fragile memories but ends up finding more questions than answers. Trance stars James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel and is written by John Hodge (Trainspotting) and Joe Ahearne (Doctor Who). The film is scheduled to be released in the UK on March 27 and a release date stateside has yet to be given.
I’m not sure that I understand the world that’s been created here as the trailer already presents quite a few questions I have about the logic/physics in the film but damn if it doesn’t look pretty. This looks like one of those movies that could end up trying to hard and miss its intended mark but I do like what they are trying for and it’d be safe to say that I’ll give the film a shot. Upside Down stars Jim Sturgess and Kristen Dunst and opens in theaters on March 15.
This crime thriller stars Ray Winstone (The Departed), Damian Lewis (Homeland) and Hayley Atwell (Captain America) and is from director Nick Love. It follows legendary detective Jack Regan as he must put a stop to a band of ruthless bank robbers, led by his former enemy, even if it means he must go above the law to get his man. This looks like a pretty solid movie with a great cast. I’m definitely looking forward to checking it out on March 1.
