Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) is currently in talks to join The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Peter Parker’s redheaded love interest, Mary Jane Watson.  The studio is also looking to cast the character of Harry Osborn.  Marc Webb is returning to direct with stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reprising their roles.  (Variety)

A rumor has been spreading around that Ms. Marvel will be a new character added to the roster of The Avengers 2.  It’s being speculated that both Emily Blunt (Looper, The Five-Year Engagement) and Ruth Wilson are head-to-head in the race for the role. (Daily Mail)

Snow White and the Huntsman director Ruper Sanders is in early talks to take the reigns of Universal’s upcoming reboot of Van Helsing.  Tom Cruise is attached to star as the titular character. (Twitch)

The new poster for Gangster Squad popped up online.  The Ruben Fleischer directed period crime drama stars Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Robert Patrick, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone and Sean Penn.  It opens on January 11, 2013. (Comingsoon.net)

Norwegian director Andre Ovredal (Trollhunter) has plans to adapt Enormous, a monster-filled apocalyptic comic published by Image, across multiple media including a web series, a TV series and a feature film.  With an approach that is similar to what was trying to be accomplished with Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, Ovredal may be more successful in getting this project off the ground as he showed that he can produce something with high-end visuals with very little money as he did in Trollhunter. Director John Landis recently spoke about his son Max Landis’ trouble with Fox in regards to Chronicle 2.  “He wrote a sequel, and it’s amazing, and the studio read it and said, ‘We want Chronicle again!’  And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution, and they said ‘No, we want that movie again!’ So it’s difficult, we’re dealing with a difficult business.” (Indiewire)

To correspond with the 65th Anniversary of Charles Shulz’s beloved comic strip, a new Peanuts feature film is in the works and is aiming for a November 25, 2015 release date.  Craig Schulz, son of Charles Schulz along with his own son, Bryan Schulz and Cornelius Uliano wrote the screenplay and handpicked 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios to distribute, produce and animate the film. A David Fincher produced Halo 4 launch trailer, titled Scanned, will premiere on Oct. 18 on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.  The two-minute short was directed by Tim Miller, the visual effects lead from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and combines CGI with live-action to explore Master Chief’s backstory and glimpse what may be the new threat he encounters in the new game. So after it was reported that NBC’s Munsters reboot, Mockingbird Lane, is not moving forward, NBC has decided to salvage the $10 million pilot by airing it on Oct. 26th at 8pm before Grimm as a Halloween special. (Hollywood Reporter)
